Enrestoration, Inc Day Habilitation opened its doors in 1994 to provide
developmental programs for the intellectually disabled. These services are provided to both
residential and non-residential community based clients.
The goal of Day Habilitation is to provide meaningful programs and activities to
adults with developmental disabilities in and around Etowah County. This will enable the
individual to maintain previously acquired skills/behaviors and to prevent regression. This
also allows them to continue their development towards some level of independence. Our
Day Habilitation Program provides a person with a variety of opportunities to increase
and/or maintain previously learned skills. Each person is involved in an individualized
program addressing references, needs, and reinforcing strengths. The focus of this program
is to maximize independence through involvement in appropriate center and community based
training activities such as:
o Activities to increase self-advocacy and self-determination skills
o Activities that promote acquisition, retention, or improvement of self-help skills
o Activities that promote acquisition, retention, or improvement of socialization skills
o Activities to improve and/or increase skills of independent living and vocational
training
A supporting program to Day Habilitation is DayStar Supported Employment. Daystar
works with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) to provide
meaningful employment opportunities for the individual, and a great employee for the
employer.
For the Employee.....
Supported Employment is and is not:
• Supported Employment is NOT employment in a "workshop" or a day program.
Supported Employment is a work in an ordinary workplace... a factory, an office, a
store, or anywhere people are employed.
• Supported employment is NOT pay measured in pennies per hour.
Supported Employment is pay earned at the same rate as anyone who holds the same
job you do.
• Supported employment is NOT just “something to do".
Through Supported Employment you can join the real world of work, contributing with
your co-workers to your company and community.
Real work is not scary; Change is. That is true for everyone. That's why your
employment specialist is there to support you in your new adventure. Daystar's
Supported Employment makes the change to real world work both comfortable and
rewarding.
You don't have to lose Social Security or other benefits when you go to work. Your
employment specialist will help you understand your benefits and plan for the future.
For the Employer...
Daystar Supported Employment is a service of qualified local and state agencies that
provide employers, just like you, with on-site expertise to make it feasible, even
advantageous, for you to hire people with disabilities.
That's not disabled people... ; it's people with disabilities.
